Welcome to United Bakers Dairy Restaurant

United Bakers is Toronto’s oldest family restaurant. For nearly a century we’ve been in the business of serving up tasty, satisfying meals in a warm and friendly atmosphere. Back in 1912, Aaron and Sarah Ladovsky began offering “heimische” baked goods and comfort foods that appealed to a whole generation of new Torontonians. Thick, vegetable-based soups that evoked the aromas of home; fresh fish cooked in Old World ways; dairy dishes that brought with them the tastes and the memories of Eastern Europe. They served a broad clientele, and they established a fine reputation. People would say: “You want to feel good? Eat at Ladovsky’s.”

One hundred years later, U B has become something of an institution, an island of stability in our multi-cultural city. In 1986 we closed our downtown location on historic Spadina Avenue, and moved the whole operation uptown to Lawrence Plaza. Still owned and operated by the same Ladovsky family, United Bakers continues to operate seven days a week, offering the same wholesome soups, the same delightfully delicious dairy & fish dishes, along with a wide selection of fresh salads, and a variety of other prepared foods and baked goods. When you enjoy our hospitality today, you are participating in a tradition that stretches back four generations in our family -- and possibly in yours as well.

To put it simply, we probably knew your grandparents, and we’d like to know you, and your children, too. It’s our pleasure to continue to offer our dairy specialties along with a broad menu including something delicious for everybody.

Over all the years, much has changed. But our goal has remained the same: to continue our own tradition - to be the restaurant that feels like home.
